      I mean I could somewhat see Nightmare on Elm Street working as a kid's horror movie albeit with a severely nerfed Freddy but in all likelyhood Disney never would've gone for the whole Child Killer concept as we saw it manifest. Because Beat is a wannabe Gangsta homie... With a surprisingly traumatic past given how he and Rhyme ended up in the Reaper's Game.

    For a second I thought Joshua had Gohan's original Funi voice actor Stephanie Nadolny until I looked it up and realised I was wrong. First Baby Oopsie Daisy sounding like Funi Kid Trunks to me and now Joshua. BTW what excatly is Kingdom Hearts in the context of the story?

    • @TheSkully343
      @TheSkully343 8 днів тому

      All these voice actors are training and waiting for the day they can voice Dragon Ball characters. Kingdom Hearts as far as we're aware in context is the place where all heart's gather (I.E people's souls, their memories their spiritual essence) in a Nirvana realm which we still haven't seen yet. I'd say it'd be something similar to Heaven, but Kingdom Hearts III already presents that to us in a place called The Final World which Sora reaches towards the end of the game as a place where dead spirits linger.

  • @SirIsaacFortesque

    4:06 That is... probably one of the weirdest interpretations of an ending I've heard, like if that was what happened... what happened to Harry's first wife? did she just stop existing? her whole bloodline just "poof, gone" just like that? yeah I think I'm gonna stick with Alessa resting in peace, leaving Harry and Cybil with Heather, even if SH3 didn't happen I'd probably prefer that, I know you don't like Silent Hill 3, but that just makes more sense to me. 4:52 You can also get a second gas can if you do the Good+ ending again on a new fear file to get the other weapon, granted the Chainsaw is much better than the Rock Drill so it's an easy pick. 17:07 I have a feeling that the boss D.I.Ying if you don't have ammo isn't a bug. (Also blah-blah-music was made with distorted dentist drill sounds-blah-blah you all have heard that a million times) So final thoughts on SH1? I absolutely adore this game, the atmosphere, the gameplay, the graphics, the story, I love just about everything about this game, one of the best on the PS1 imho, and one of my favorite games in general, it's one of the two series's that made me love survival horror games so much, (The other being Dead Space) and it's kind of a shame that there isn't much in terms of good survival horror games coming out in this day and age, aside from the newer RE games I suppose, (Well I haven't played any of those yet so... :P) I have heard good things about an indie game called Crow Country and the new Alone in the Dark game so maybe there is hope for good survival horror games. (And the first Dead Rising is getting a soft remake/remaster so there's that too)

    • @TheSkully343

      The answer to all of those questions is... I dunno? But I suppose it just goes to show the whole "Make shit up" philosophy of game guides back in the late 90s early 2000s. By which point you'll either have the HyperBlaster or the Katana in tandem with the Chainsaw so at that stage the Rock Drill is just a nice bonus. It very well could've been but I do think Team Silent would've been sensible enough to play test their final boss and realize "hey if one of the players is stupid enough to waste all their ammo before going to the final boss maybe we should give them a solution since the Incubator has a psychic shield and the Incubus is in constant flight" I mean if you're looking for Classic Survival horror styled games then I'd recommend both Tormented Souls and Alisa since they both do a very decent job of creating a horror atmosphere with a late 90s touch.

    • @SirIsaacFortesque
      @SirIsaacFortesque 10 днів тому

      @@TheSkully343 I knew about Tormented Souls, and that's kind of a maybe from me, but I didn't know about Alisa, I'd say from what I can see, it's also a maybe. Kinda reminds me of the American Mcgee's Alice games though, which I'd say is neat. And honestly, I don't really care if it's modern or classic styled, like I mentioned Dead Space as one of the reasons I love the genre, and that's a modern styled game, like RE4 through 6, or the RE remakes, I'm just looking for good survival horror games in general, not just classic tank control ones, heck I also mentioned hearing good things about the new Alone in the Dark game and that's modern styled.

Well say goodbye because Ursula's never coming back after this so Prince Spider-Man and Princess BOOBS!!! can breathe easy. Now wouldn't that be something to help us in our never ending quest to replicate the FEEEEEEELING OF SOLDANO-MAN!!! Part of it is because of how the series wanted to approach its overarching story by weaving in the prequel Birth By Sleep's whole story with Old Man Xehanort into the earlier games to set him up as the primary villain for Kingdom Hearts III The other factor is Tetsuya Nomura being Square Enix's whipping boy and having his efforts divided by designing characters for various Final Fantasy Projects, and being heavily involved in Final Fantasy XV's early development as game director before being kicked off and replaced including what was the original vision for that game which does have some interesting ties to KH3 in and of itself.

    2:54 So it basically makes sense to call him *both* Frankenstein, and Frankenstein's Monster, it's just for specifics when both are in the same story. (Didn't know Victor named him Adam though, guess that shows how I haven't read the actual original book) 7:20 I'd say it looks like some sort of torture room or dungeon. 9:19 Death: "Hey Belmont number 5! I've been watching you; Ya know for a human, you've been doing pretty good, I already filled my soul quota for the day though, so you can just go home- *Gets a couple dozen holy water bottles thrown at him while the hallelujah chorus plays* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-" (There's a TerminalMontage reference for ya) 12:59 Why are you teabagging? seems a bit early 13:32 He looks kinda like a goblin with that mouth and that nose. 16:21 is there a reason why you didn't show off the fact that you can do a glitch that lets you jump and swing your whip after picking up the orb? Also fun fact about that, it actually got referenced in Super Smash Bros Ultimate where it's one of Simon's victory animations, he picks up the orb and starts jumping and whipping in place. Overall, I like this game, sure it's a bit BS at times, but I don't know, I had a fun time despite some frustration, even though I did like Bloodlines and CV4 more, not really much else to say, I just like it and think it's fun, even if it hasn't aged the best.

      You must catch up on your reading Sir Fortesque. But regardless that was just my effort to put a pin in that pointless debate over calling the creature Frankenstein or his creator thingo ya know? Maybe its a torture room that allows its torturers to have a light dinner while they torment their victims. Death to Death causes life. Sorry Simon Belmondo had just teleported into the Halo universe briefly and won a multiplayer match. Which is part of why I was thinking part of Dracula's design might've been Count Orlok inspired from 1922's Nosferatu. I forgot honestly, I think I was just more concerned with finishing the game at that stage. Granted there are other Castlevania games I'd play over the first but I still think its a solid adventure for the NES and one of its defining games.

    3:19 Huh, when was it stated that End of the World took inspiration from Nowhere? I've never heard that before. (Also to give my thoughts on Nowhere, I think it's one of the best parts of the game personally) 3:59 "Well... there's really not much for us to do except for sorting through the pieces of her shattered memories" Ha! I see what you did there. (I also see the Castlevania reference in the title, guess I could've taken that as foreshadowing to what was next lol) 13:56 Harry is very lucky he didn't die right there from getting glass in his face. 20:14 I feel like I would actually be fine with SH having a photo mode if they kept it in new game + files, NG+ in SH is all about finding stuff you didn't find, getting the other endings and screwing about with your new toys, whether they be joke weapons like the Laser Blaster and Laser Sword, non joke weapons like the Chainsaw, or magical girl BS, might as well let em have more fun. (I don't really have a problem with photo modes anyway, I just find them fun to screw around in, I get not liking them, but idk, I find some enjoyment in messing with them) 22:15 Well nice to see that now considering I'm an American. (As I've mentioned many times before) 23:00 The more you talk about Forbidden Siren the more I keep telling myself "Get the game on the PS4 store already man!", I seriously need to get on that sometime. 23:52 To give my thoughts on "Light switch vs infection" I think both can work, but I also haven't gotten around to playing the other games besides 3 so I'll put a pin in that for now. 25:54 My guess is that it's that it's a combination of, he thought something could be in there, (Like why tf would there just be a random bag of jellybeans in this place?) and he was hungry, we never see the man eat anything throughout this whole game and all we have for healing items are drinks and bandages. (Plus, I'm not really sure where this was, I think it was in SH3 in Harry apartment, but I'm pretty sure I remember him also being a big detective/mystery novel reader, which may also be how he was able to solve all these puzzles, my head cannon is that he just got some sort of detectives intuition from reading so much he just had feeling there was something important in there; I like your idea too though)

      I'm positive I remember reading it somewhere because when it was said it sounded like such a bizarre influence to take on, but also one that made sense. Not to mention that its not like Tetsuya Nomura hadn't had his hand in horror before given that KH1 was hot in pre-production around the time Parasite Eve II was released. Got it in one, Sir Fortesque. Or at the very least he didn't get blinded and we'd have to play the game navigating by sound alone. Excellent! my subliminal messaging is working... Well I can't say I was expecting you to commentate on Castlevania, not a bad thing it's just kinda one of those games I never thought of. 0:32 I have no problem with you playing on easy mode, I have beaten this game, and I made vigorous use of save states thanks to the Anniversary Collection, and I probably would've played it the same way if I knew there was an easy mode in the Japanese version. (Kind of a reverse Mega Man 2 situation huh? 0:48 DDD... as much as I like the game, I send your brain condolences for when you do get to recording that. (I'm never gonna finish the BBS commentary am I?) 2:41 Or as SomeCallMeJohnny put it, "Dracula took the Belmont family lawnmower and never gave it back" So as I mentioned, I have played this game, and while I do agree that it is a bit dated, and the knockback sucks, I did enjoy my time with the game, mostly, it was kinda BS sometimes.

      Always keep them guessing and surprise them every time. Indeed. Although there was always the game company stigma of "make the game hard to ensure no weekend rentals" as was the style of the time. I've still got a few things to sort out with Dream Drop Distance so this is why Castlevania is here to sorta keep things tied over until I'm ready for Dream eater grinding and time travel shenanigans. Where's Van Helsing when you need him (or Jonathan Harker... or Quincy Morris... Or Mina Harker... Or anyone from the original novels that seem to be copyright averse since Bloodlines includes John Morris as a sort of Belmont descendant) Yeah, its a fun game, that has its bullshit moments, but if you dig your heels in and get with the flow of gradually gaining more power to overcome challenges then Castlevania can be a pretty solid adventure despite its frustration.

    Thank God rereleases of these old 3rd and 4th gen games have difficultity modes now because I'm not spending more years of my life trying to be old games with questionable design to say nicely. I mostly play games on normal or easy mode because personally, I prefer to have fun and enjoy my time with games and not get stressed out over playing them, that's what life is for. Although if I like the game enough and if the harder modes are fun, I sometimes will try out them out. Oh btw, forgot to mention this when you brought up Gex in the Silent Hill commentary, Gex trilogy remaster is coming out in fall of this year. The new trailer came out unexpectly.

      Well in the Castlevania Collection's case (which has the first game through to Bloodlines + their Japanese counterparts) it is the original games as intended (sans the PAL Castlevania New Generation port of Bloodlines) so the difficulty is the same unless you play the famicom version 'Akamajou Dracula' which is what you're seeing here. But it is good that some game collections do go the extra mile as optional modes for newcomers like the Megaman X collections. Oh that's good to hear, I'll be looking forward to that.

    Hello I'm new here, came straight from the Algorithm suggestion of the bonus video of this playlist. So, this game is so dream like even as a kid seeing this it never felt too scary for me, mostly because you fight Pterodactyls and Poochies, but walking in the darkness while unnerving ambient music is playing, and you're in a abandoned school, feels kind of, cozy, like you can hide in the darkness from the monsters, that don't feel like they're evil. Unlike the OG Resident Evil 2 which is a full fledged PTSD nightmare fuel childhood trauma that lasted for 15 years which I only took head-on, watching zombie movies and games to defeat it. Also I never seen Twin Peaks, until 2022, boy does the diner scene has so (musical notes) much taken from Twin Peaks Opening (song), kind'a like MGS1 took it's music from movie Speed. I love the Diner scene, it feels so good and cozy.

      Well that's a surprise! Finally the algorithm WORKS FOR ME!!! Or just sorta functioned out of sheer happenstance. But regardless, glad to have you aboard. That does strike me as odd since usually I found Silent Hill to be the other way around where I found the first game to be efficiently scary in its ambience whereas by the time I got to Resident Evil I was all set and ready to take it on. But I suppose all people find different things scary. Quite fitting since it was a point of inspiration among Nine inch Nails in Akira Yamaoka's soundscape, which helps the dreamlike trance you experience.

    6:12 "Make haste, you must use the Flauros to save your daughter, before she becomes the sacrifice... you do have the Flauros, right Harry? Remember, I left it on the altar for you" Harry: "...F*********ck..." H: " *Back at the church* *Grumbling about having to get the Flauros while breaking the 4th wall* " (That's the last RABtoons reference I swear) 11:37 I'm sorry, *what?* . (I've never heard about SH3 being a rail shooter in the first few stages of development) 13:07 Ya know, with how much ROM hacking has evolved I'm surprised there isn't some sort of hack for SH1 where you play a Cybil scenario; Heck there are mods for the original two RE games for characters like Barry in RE1, (Complete with Jill Sandwich being the voice clip you hear when starting a playthrough instead of the classic *Resident Evil* ) and Kendo and I think Marvin in RE2 to give them scenario's so why haven't we seen something for Cybil? (I actually do want to try and get into game making/modding so that might be a project to add to the list of ideas) 16:19 So since you can actually see one of those on screen now would be a good time to mention an interesting speed run trick, if you have the bottle of the *Red liquid I'm too lazy to look up how to spell* and use it on that, you'll end up skipping the boss with Cybil and having the cutscene freak out, (Think the geddan meme type stuff) and the game will either crash or continue on as if nothing happened. (If you want to see it in action, there's a runner by the name of "Punchy" I can recommend, and she survives if do that, if you were wondering) So anyways, remember how I had something to mention about Cybil? well a few things, 1, it's kind of up in the air on whether or not she's actually dead because of Harry, in the Book of Lost Memories, (Which I think is some sort of art book or dev log thing that was released? idk) writer Hiroyuki Owaku stated what happened to her was "Left to the players imagination" however the book also states the regular good ending is the "Orthodox" ending, meaning that's what's connected to SH3; And then when Masahiro Ito was asked about it he said, "Yes I remember, Cybil is dead", and when asked about Hiroyuki's statement he said, "If you choose 'good+' ending among them, she is not dead, maybe". and then there's what Keiichiro Toyama said where he intended the 'good' ending to be the true ending, and he believes Owaku developed SH3 around the 'good' ending. But then later changed his mind and said he now considers the 'good+' ending to be 'a true ending'. ...So if you couldn't tell no one who had a big hand in development of Silent Hill 1 can come to an agreement on whether or not Harry k!IIed Cybil or not. And now 2: her scenario in SH the play novel actually sounds pretty interesting, it surprisingly has 6 different endings as well, (Althought they are set up differently to normal SH1 endings, instead of "Good+, good, bad+, bad" we get ending A, B-1, B-2, B-3, C-1, and C-2) like one where Harry still ends her life but for different reasons... and one where she sees what's basically her funeral, and also one where Harry actually dies by Alessa's powers, it looks like pretty neat stuff imho. And I guess if I can mention anything else about her... she's one of those skins in Dead By Daylight where they have their own voice lines done for them so... it's something, idk I've never played the game.

    • @TheSkully343

      Given what stage in the game Harry is at with the Otherworld being permanent I think its a bit too late to run back and get the Flauros since Alessa's almost won at this point. Well lucky for you the next episode of Skully Reviews is gonna go in detail about that as Silent Hill 3's earlier concept stages had the game be developed as a rail shooter to help the game sell to Japanese audiences. Yeah, it kinda surprises me that people haven't given the Silent Hill series a good modding treatment. I mean there are fans who love the games enough and are PC releases of SH2 through 4 including games like Homecoming and the like so it strikes me as odd that nothing has ever come of it. Yeah well for me I'm taking the good+ ending as canon since I can easily infer that Cybil helped Harry go into hiding while Heather grew up. And in my fanfictiony brain Harry and Cybil married having five beautiful children and then my fancharacter AWESOME the Hedgehog comes in and- I'll stop there : P It would be nice to see an official localization of the SH play novel at some stage, though given the fact that even the main games don't have recent ports I doubt Konami would give a shit about a GBA visual novel released near the turn of the millennium. Whoopee... Doesn't mean much since I've never played Dead by Daylight either.

    A new season of Skully reviews and what a way to start. I've been really looking forward to this review, me being a massive fan of this game (though you already know that). @10:36 It is strange seeing the original Shadow design. It had a Deviantart recolor look to it, amusingly, but I'm glad they went with what they did for Shadow. Funny enough, I have my own experience of designing a character and having it go through massive changes before it turned out in a way I liked. Seeing the moon destruction cutscene after not thinking about it for a while, I'm impressed with how well it portrays Eggman as a dangerous villain, along with everything else you mentioned. Sadly, Snapcube seems to have ruined it with that "I'm pissing on the moon" joke. (I hate it when memes take over stories) @18:18 Nice Sonic Meerkat cameo. @30:09 I think that accent is coked out Californian. Seeing how great Sonic played in this game, it makes me sad that it was never really used again. Though the future games up to 06 are similar, they really don't have the smoothness in Adventure 2. I also wanted to give a quick praise to the grinding here. While it has its clunky moments, it is still the most satisfying version of this mechanic the series ever had. It's nice to see someone else who thinks that the treasure hunting is better in SA2 than 1. The controls and overall level layout are so much better that even with the mildly worse radar, it is fun to play. While I like the Sonic and Shadow stages the most, I'd argue the mech shooting stages are the most underrated stages in the game. The arcade style of ranking points makes replays really fun as you find the best ways to get points. It also helps that the stage design, for the most part, is really good (aside from the last Tails stage). @1:10:42 "No actually friends". I'd put a sad emoji here, but then I'd have to punish myself for using an emoji. I really love the overall look of the game. While SA1 has a more, for lack of a better term, Dreamcast look, this game refines it while adding its own elements which make even looking at the stages interesting (which is something sadly lacking from many current open world games). Side note, I love the SOAP shoes. The design, I'd argue, looks better on the modern version of Sonic that the original designs do. In spite of the occasional awkwardness, I love the voice cast here. However, while the main cast is great and really hits their stride, the performance for Gerald is what steals the show for me. Listening to him go from worried to losing his sanity to finally being at peace in the worst way in the diary entries is conveyed in such an effective and frankly disturbing way that I'm surprised it isn't talked about all that much. I don't understand the criticism for the game's soundtrack. It is easily one of, if not my favorite of the Sonic soundtracks. The music fits the characters and are solid listens on their own. The vocal themes are also my favorite here. @1:35:54 That's messed up. I love it. I love the two main stories and find that they do a great job combining a pulpy adventure with solid character building, but the last story really elevates the game's story to massive heights. You've mentioned everything I'd want to mention throughout the video so I won't be redundant, but it really shows how an engaging story can take a solid game and make it a masterpiece. I love your comments on the darker tone of the last story. I find it funny how so many people look back at older shows, movies, etc. and comment on how dark they are and in the case of something made for kids, it sets some people off, but there are two elements that I think counter it. First, kids don't like to be condescended to so as long as the darker stuff is done maturely (actual mature not edgy mature) it will engage the target audience all the more. Second, dark material had been used to help kids from the days of fairy tale stories. In fact, fairy tale were created to help prepare children for the rougher parts of life by showcasing them in a fictional setting. If anything, it is healthy and speaks to an issue with current cultural values. The last story stage is a perfect showcase for how well the game as a whole integrates the stages with the story. While plenty of other games have done the mix of story and gameplay to great effect, they do tend to lean heavily in one direction or the other while Adventure 2 does a fantastic job making the stages fun to play on their own while also making sure they tie into the story in a way that feels natural. It's also a nice touch that the stage select shows where the stages are in relation to each other. The moment with Amy and Shadow, I think, works best when you are not thinking about fully what is being said, but rather the mentality of the two. Amy, being an optimistic person with a strong drive while Shadow is a child minded person with the desire for a purpose and the capabilities to see that purpose through. The mix of the two work really well and I think that having Amy be the one to turn Shadow works really well as she has constantly been left behind by Sonic and Tails throughout the story and ended up getting them into trouble, so allowing her to take part in saving the day works great for her character ark. The final boss is one of the most exciting finales I've seen in a game. Thanks to the story, the boss itself has weight while the use of the changing environment adds tension and the music pumps you up to see the game through to the end. I'm glad that this game has a cool down moment to the story instead of Sonic being ready for a new adventure like in the pervious games. It shows that the events meant something to the characters, as their interactions show, and it also allows the player to take in all they've done and really reflect on the experience of it all. It also adds a sense of conclusion, as you mentioned for the game as a whole. This has been a great review. It's clear that you've wanted to cover this game for years, but made sure that you had your reviewing style down in order to give it proper justice in a way only you could give. It doesn't get too bogged down with technical aspects or constant defending, but rather discusses it from a clear viewpoint while backing up why that viewpoint exists, all while sprinkling some fun humor and strong insights. As a side note, it has been roughly ten years since I first found your channel and looking back on it, I'm glad to have stuck around watching your videos while also chatting with you in comment sections and in google hangouts. You've have been, and continue to be, a great friend and I couldn't be more grateful that chance or fate allowed for it. Thanks for the all the great insights, laughs, and memories and God bless you.

      Any review that entertains Ahatt96 is a success in my book. I suppose its just the way the creative process works where you have an idea based on things you've seen before. But as you gradually chip away at it, the design eventually becomes something completely different and unique to what you started with which makes it something original. Gotta be honest. I never found SnapCube's thing all that funny considering it just felt like reactionary humor in a LOLSORANDOM kinda way. My favorite joke from his review was naturally gonna get some coverage. Well I'll be damned... Do they have any cocaine left? Because I need it to survive. Indeed. No other Sonic game ever really expanded upon SA2's rhythm or mechanical depth and just sorta bolted on game specific gimmicks or went for something new entirely. Absolutely. Hence the Baby Chao throwing a temper tantrum in place of people complaining about the emerald radar. Honestly the mech stages for me just got better and better with age, as I got to really appreciate how you're able to chain targets together and avoid hazards. Look if I could teleport you to Australia to test out the multiplayer I'd do it immediately... Unless it conflicted with your busy schedule in which case I'd teleport you back to where you need to go and apologize in advance. SA1 looks about as realistic as graphics of the Dreamcast could provide whereas SA2 looked good while being stylish which helped to give it an edge to age better. Oh hell yeah, hence why I wish they stuck around from 2003 onwards. Precisely hence why I also talked about both Marc Biagi and Chikao Otsuka's performances in detail since Gerald Robotnik is such a pivotal character both for this game, Shadow and indeed Eggman himself in being his primary motivation for being a scientist despite his goal in trying to beat Sonic. Maria's true cause of death was because of MURICA!!! Precisely. As for roughly ten years, given that your earliest comment was about 2013 I'd say you've probably been with me the longest in terms of viewership which means that for as long as I've been doing this, you've been right by me which is something I deeply appreciate and will never forget man... ^^ Anyway I've got a fair few videos to pack out this last season and hopefully I send Skully Reviews off with a bang.

    Woah dude ! Not only was that one of your greatest reviews in its own right, I think after that I seriously got interested in Sonic story in general. I mean of course we could allways talk about why you like SA2 but this review really made me see why so many people in the first place really care about Sonic Lore and story. I also have to say that I really like how you structured that video, starting with the story to the point where you take a break right before the climactic act, where you take your time highlighting the gameplay and the sounddesign. I think this made the review end on an awesome note^^ Also your cutawaygag game is on point with some MachoMan Randy Savage goodness in there^^ Also the joke about the complainers of the right radar had the perfect timing when it was used the second time^^ I also really love that when you showcased the theme music of every character all the scenes you put in matched the lyrics so well , that was really cool^^ All in all Im so happy that you managed to get all your thoughts and ideas not only showcasing this games strength but also acknowledging shortcomings and analyzing it all. And it made me super interested in like the whole general story of Sonic and Co. You did a mighty fine job dude^^

    So I finally finished the review and man this is my favourite review of the game along side Ruby of Blue's review. You nailed everything on the head and also gave fair criticism. Also the part where you made fun of the radar haters was funny. This is a game that means alot to me. Its both a game I can go back to but it also sometimes feels melodic. Bringing back memories of much simpler times that I long wish to return. However in despite of that, it reminds to live in the present and march forward into the future. It along aside Silent Hill 2 will always be a my favorite game of all time as well as my favourite Sonic game. I honestly do agree this ends the series perfectly. Ever since Sonic 1 mentioning the emralds can be used to for peace but also used for evil (like weapon and laser based technology), each game expanded upon the lore and Sonic Adventure 2 gave the natural conclusion and pay off the series had for 10 years. That and well I think it right that the series had to be maturer because well, the kids who played the megadrive games where by 2001 teenagers and adults. As well as SEGA no longer being a first party company and with the at the time uncertainty of the series' future. Sonic as a series has had alot of ups and downs and Ive been there. I may prefer some eras more than others but I have decided to give Frontiers a chance and I plan on getting Sonic X Shadow generations when it's out. I'm not very excited for the game but I figured why not relive some early 2010s nostalgia. I only will play the future games if they interest me enough but if they dont and i know i wont like it, Ill still enjoy the games I still love. But if there is something I want from future Sonic games, its ultimately this. I want a Sonic game thats confident, cool and with a legacy of its own. Not pandering to classic, dreamcast, dark age or even meta era, not trying to fix the past but moves on from it, acknowledging it but making active steps to be greater than its flaws to be the best it can be. Whether its Classic, Adventure, meta, serious or light hearted, it doesn't matter. Just do it well. As for this being the final season of Skully reviews, I'm sad but also happy to have been here since season 2. Youve improved so much since the days of Skully X and the difference is night and day. Its gonna be sadden once we get to the final episode but all in all, glad to have been a fan for so long. I do hope that youll continue to do commentaries and or even shorter vidoes such as in person vidoes like you used to do. And of course i hope youll still be around to give funny but also insightful comments. Also sorry for how long this comment is.

    Well I was not expecting this after the SH commentary but that's not a bad thing. Just like Ratchet 3, I do own this game but I haven't actually played through it yet, mostly because I've got so much other stuff on my hands right now, which goes for the other Sonic games I currently own, (Mega collection +, Adventure 1 DX, (I don't own a Dreamcast, I know the GC version is borked) and Heroes) so just like Ratchet 3, I'll be leaving a reply to this with my thoughts on the game, and the video once I've actually done a playthrough. This game is best first installment of any series I've seen, played or read. Nothing comes close to it for me. Silent Hill 1 not only laid the groundwork but left a mark on the series that it will always be felt. It's a perfect standalone game but also works as a wonderful introduction into Silent Hill. Even despite Silent Hill 2's success somewhat leaving Silent Hill 1 to be forgotten, it's importance is still felt throughout the later games even if its small. Until the recent games but that's besides the point. Harry and Cybil being Aleeisa's parents as a way of thanking them for saving her is very wholesome. If Silent Hill 3 realised as it was intended, then Silent Hill 1 would've had the best ending in the series. After watching this commentary, ive realised Dahlia is my favourite villian in the series. Despite coming of as crazy, she's very intelligent, manipulate and also the greatest puppet master in gaming along side Gerald Robotnik. Not only was she able to find a way to birth the Cult's God but she even had a backup plan in Silent Hill 4 incase they couldn't find Aleesia's other half. The fact she was able to do so much for the Order and nearly succeeded, makes Silent Hill homecoming's villians even more worse. While I still find enjoyment in the original commentary, this here is a major improvement. I've been here since 2016 and my God its amazing seeing how you've grown. And it also makes me feel so old knowing it's been 8 years since I've been watching your content. Oh BTW how's progress with the Sonic Adventure 2 review?

    • @TheSkully343
      @TheSkully343 Місяць тому

      Silent Hill 1 really took the Survival Horror genre to the next level and giving its format a unique spin that gives it a lot of staying power even 2 decades on. Well its MY CANONICAL ENDING from here on out regardless of SH3. Indeed. She plays up the madness angle to get exactly what she wants out of Harry by choosing the right words and pushing him in the right direction and plays upon his desperation to find Cheryl which in this game alone succeeds, but her devotion to God and how that also elaborates on her preying upon Walter and his 'mother' in SH4 just show how determined she was to bring about her vision of Paradise even if Alessa couldn't be found. Well I'm glad to keep you entertained after all these years... Fuck I'm old. As for Sonic Adventure 2... Well keep hanging on the edge of tomorrow and you might be in for a surprise... In other words... ALMOST... FUCKING... FINISHED... Then I can finally die in peace.

    0:25 "Law and Order intensifies" 1:30 I got that reference. 2:17 I actually almost did miss the rifle on my first playthrough, granted I did look up where it was before it was too late to backtrack, so I at least didn't have to get it on a new fear file. (Fun fact though, it apparently doesn't do more damage than the shotgun if you shoot the shotgun up close) 6:53 Now I'm wondering if this place has any significance in her scenario in the Play Novel. 7:08 Yeah, I kinda have to agree that I like SH1 being pretty lenient when you can explore, I still like SH3 from what I've play of it so far, (Up to the abandoned apartment complex) but I would be lying if I said I didn't miss the exploration. 10:38 I agree, I think a small little Lisa scenario would've been pretty neat, and I'm sure she could've just picked up a pipe or something like Harry. 13:46 Another thing you can do in the options menu, give yourself double, or quadruple the ammo from pickups, basically giving you infinite ammo on future playthroughs, rather handy if I do say so myself. 16:19 I wouldn't know I've never been in one, possibly. (Not sure about the scratcher thing either, wasn't listening close enough because I was focused on staying alive, don't hear it all that much in the clip you showed either, I wonder what they are meant to symbolize though) 18:05 since this feels like a good place to bring this up, some enemies also are less aggressive if you turn off your flashlight, not much of a reason why I brought that up, I just wanted too. 23:00 Eeh, not liking how he talks about stuff in the comments so far, (Even though I definitely overreacted with the SHf thing) so maybe not this time Mr. Skully Bones. 24:41 Harry: "Hmmm, well I could stick my hand in this $h- and p!$$ polluted gunk; Or I could call in a professional! care to assist James?" James: "Oh ha ha, I stuck my hand in a toilet, *once* ; At least I don't ask cr@k heads and religious lunatics every five seconds if they've seen my daughter" H: "Oh sorry! you're right! you're a spousal removal expert" J: "F#$^( you" (There's another Rabtoons reference for ya, and I won't be the last, that comes later) Anyways the Sewer is fine, I don't hate it, don't like it all that much, I'm pretty neutral tbh.

      DUN DUNNNN!!! Yep. No secret jewel inside the walnut for you.. Well a shotgun up close and personal will do more damage, but it it also loses out on the range which the rifle gives for higher accuracy which negates the difference in damage output. Not to mention I doubt it'll help in the final boss which depending on your ending protects herself with a psychic barrier. It might do, perhaps its where the screenshot of Cybil choking Alessa comes from. SH3 ebbs and flows from its linearity to the 'dungeon design' that the first two games had which makes me wonder whether or not it was done for story purposes or because they didn't have the budget to design new areas of the town to explore? That's a great idea! Hell for a bit of added foreshadowing you could also have Lisa protect herself from the Doctors and Nurses using the same weapons they have as she explores the basement. That's only after a first playthrough, you still need to complete the game before you get access to the ammo multiplier option. Good question. I mean general knowledge is that the Hanged Scratchers are Alessa's fear of predatory adults lurking in the darkness which makes sense given her occultic upbringing. Very true, though it doesn't completely make them ignore you as the early game memo in Silent Hill 2 pointed out where they might not notice you, but don't expect it to save you forever. Very well... now to implement subliminal messaging for the Media Nerd's videos Rabid delicious toons. The sewers... Absurdly spacious and indescribably STANKY!

    You know, the idea of the otherworld being an infection rather than a light switch is more scarier but I don't mind how the series has handled it ever since SH2. I'm fine with both ways but the series has overused the light switch route and I think the infection route should make a comeback. I have thought of 2 ways a new game could bring it back, either have former members of the Order trying to rebuild the cult or a new character trying to use the powers of Silent Hill for their own selfish gains.

    • @TheSkully343
      @TheSkully343 Місяць тому

      I think both of those ideas could actually make for a cool prequel game about how the original Cult was founded and how they plotted to weave their influence upon the town to develop it into what it was. I mean you could have something like some members being totally devoted blood knights for God, some crazed and wanting spiritual powers for their own sake like you suggested or some who are indoctrinated and want to get out as a protagonist and tries to stop them only to fail and suffer a horrific fate.

    That's how I feel whenever I commentate. It's so easy to fall into rants. No where is genuinely one of most creepiest places in any game. The calm yet eerie music, no map, the varios areas of the game shoved in, the notes you find that futher elaborates on the town's history, and the plot revelations of Lisa. Man I don't think anything tops in this in the series. 😂😂 It's funny whenever you do that voice. We're nearly at the end, coming soon on Friday, the best day.

      Yeah absolutely man. Nowhere even to this day still remains as one of the creepiest horror locations for just how isolated it is from reality and even more so how it feels like the shrinking bubble of euclidean structure is being eroded to nothing which adds to that fear now that Alessa is no longer in control and the nightmare extends beyond its initial conduit.

    6:58 To think this small line actually got some relevance in Silent Hill the Play Novel on GBA. (If you didn't know, SH the Play Novel was basically a visual novel version of SH1, and we actually got a Cybil scenario in it as well) 9:32 It always catches me off guard and gets a laugh out of me when you just randomly interject in cutscenes, and this is no exception; And I was thinking the exact same thing lol. 11:30 Nice to see you didn't forget about the axe. (I still pick it up even if I don't use it lol, the HAMMER OF JUSTICE is just a much better weapon imho) 16:17 Huh, I thought it was just Harry teleporting and passing out midway through the conversation. 18:03 Let's just hope some old lady doesn't open the door to let em all in because she's looking for her dog. (Yes, this is a reference) Anyways in other news, remember how I mentioned I have a copy of Ape Escape on the Loose in the Simpsons Hit and Run commentary? well I've started a playthrough now and I think it may be one of my new favorite platformers, it's really good; As for how far I've gotten, I've beaten Specter Land and I just need to round up the last few monkeys before fighting Specter himself.

I never use the Axe much at all but hey at least its there for weapon variety. Nope, it all ties into the Psychic TV drugs used in that chalice. Though I suppose due to Otherworld fuckey Harry very well could be teleporting around town via spiritual alignment which would be worth exploring for a future game. Well best of luck capturing all the Monkeys in Ape Escape. Specters final boss fight was pretty fun from memory.

    You know, where is everyone in this town?! I know it's a game but for a resort town it sure is empty aside from the monsters. Actually I just realised I answered my own question. I just imaged Kaufman riding that motorcycle lol. He probably did escape with it in the bad ending. Here's a fun fact, in the demo for SH1, Harry actually speaks when Kaufman leaves at the end of the side quest. Why it was removed, I have no idea. Also why is there parts of the game were Harry is silent? Did they forget to record the lines or did they run out of time. Also thanks for this awesome song at the end. Really catchy and I might end up using it in future reviews.

    • @TheSkully343
      @TheSkully343 Місяць тому

      I mean even forgoing Vincent's SH3 whole "they look like monsters to you?" line, in the first game alone Lisa implies that if they're not hiding away from the powerful Cult that has a darker stranglehold on the town, then they're a part of the Cult itself helping Dahlia achieve her goals and just letting her manipulate events to her own ends. XD Now that'd be funny as Harry's dying of his car crash injuries Kaufmann is listening to heavy metal music while riding out of town with cash in hand. Oh that's cool! I never knew about that, so thanks man. I suppose maybe there might've been last minute script changes to accomodate for certain demands (I.E the Grey Children being altered/removed for the final game or plot elements being smoothened out for the sake of the team's vision ya know?) No worries. I'm looking forward to hearing more Slipknot at the end of more Media Nerd reviews.

I think nowadays EA doesnt even have the FIFA license anymore. 13:12 Holy shit ! HO! RADICAL! Oh yeah That's right I'm a radical trickster dude sick silky EXTREME RANKING. A nice way of mitigating disasters and downplaying potential mistakes in life. :3 If they don't have the FIFA license then what are they going to rely on for their "it prints money: franchise now? Its okay Skornie that NPC can't hurt you. Now put your delicious brain back to sleep while he slowly nibbles your dribble. 4:03 I do agree that balance between terrestrial and extra-terrestrial did make the enemies in this game more interesting, I don't hate Ito's solo designs but pee pee monster as the first boss of SH3 was way too on the nose, I feel like you can still get the symbolism of later Silent Hill games with the more abstractness of Sato's designs if you try and get a better balance, and I hope more people can do it right in future horror games, even if most modern horror games aren't that great at horror... I've heard good things about a game named Crow Country though. 11:17 "Konami, we were always this bad! du dun da" (And the fact that he just made his own studio just to be credited is hilarious) 17:40 I can't really say I know what kind of shows you're talking about. 21:28 I never put these together but wow, that makes a lot of sense, I'm learning a lot about this game with this series, considering I love this game as much as I do, I have no problem with that. 23:22 The only Pamela in horror movies I can think of is Jason's mother so that can't be it. (Yes, *that* Jason) 25:52 Well I looked it up and while the dev studio is Taiwanese, the writer (Ryukishi07, the main writer for a visual novel series named "When They Cry") the creature/character designer, (Kera, I don't know what they worked on because there's no Wikipedia article for them) and producer (Motoi Okamoto, he mostly did assistance stuff for nintendo on projects like Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin 1 and 2 as well as Zelda Wind Waker and Mario 64 DS, and also directed SH The Short Message if that's anything to say) are actually Japanese.

      Ito's designs only really bug me when the symbolism becomes painfully obvious akin to the Split Worm example you mentioned before. Other than that he does have some decent artistic chops that have a unique touch in his own right. Well it worked for the dude, and he also got work as the CGI designer for Silent Hill 2 just to spite Konami so Takoyoshi Sato firmly wears the sunglasses of badassary. That's probably for the best. They're quite miserable. XD YAY!!! You're LEARNDING! Che che che ha ha hah I get using Ryukishi07 for his Shigaraki when they cry work, but its also the little things from how streets are designed, cultural aspects that might not translate from one to another, quirks in how it translates, that kinda thing. I don't remember if I bring that up, but one thing Team Silent were fretting over during the development of SH1 was whether or not the aspects of American culture would be accurate since they had very little to go by in 1999.

    "NO I'm going" Also my God the music playing here in the other church and prior to entering it is so calming not unnerving. Now that you mention it, the connections to SH1 and SH2 are much stronger than you'd expect. I sometimes forget the details of the plot of the first game but I understand it the more I get older. Especially learning about what exactly white Claudia does and how it's connected to the Order's goals. Whether it was intentional or not, it's amazing how the lore and story of the games work so well together. The story gives you enough of what you need to know but the lore enhances everything. That's exactly why Silent Hill lore is my favourite lore to learn about.

      "I'm a cop, I should go" One of my personal favorites out of the ambient tracks of the first game. But honestly the soundtrack as a whole is incredible man. The games really went out of their way to develop a culture around things native to the town itself which helped to cement its identity as both a town, local populace and customs but also in terms of how it weaves into the stories and horror settings which gives it a unique edge to both Silent Hill's imitators as well as those quick to cash in on 'spooky horror town jump scare festival" motifs.

    0:09 I'd have to agree in saying that shot was most likely a warning shot, although with how little bullets there are in Silent Hill that's probably not the best idea. (And for why he would shoot a warning shot, well with people like Dalia around it's better to be safe than sorry) 2:14 Is Skully randomly doing an Irish accent going to be a running gag from now on? Simpsons Hit & Run, Mega Man Zero and now here. 4:31 Well if he had to have two relevant roles in video games, he at least got to be in two good ones. (Like legit I think that Episode III game is pretty darn good, especially the duel mode) 5:13 How I never noticed what that fridge would become later on is beyond me, granted it is a background object so there is that. 6:03 And there's also going to be a fact that I will bring up about that ending that you may not like considering you "Hate it so badly". 10:48 Ya know, a horror game or show all about investigating strange/paranormal sounding rumors and them actually turning out to be real is a very neat concept, think the seven wonders segment of the KH2 intro, wonder if anyone's ever done a show or game like that. 13:33 Okay the way you started talking about them "Making you better" just reminded me of Professor Pyg, (Still one of the best side missions in the Arkham games in my opinion) and yeah, I agree with your take on hospital levels in horror games. 14:10 Another reason why the drums work is that it kinda sounds like a type of machine (Think a washing machine) which adds to the artificial atmosphere, and it gets stuck in your head making you want it to stop in a way. 15:53 To add onto the "Hospital themed enemies" thing, why not include a scrub enemy who tries to choke you or use other medical equipment, I know that second one sounds a bit silly but it's an idea. (And hey, these are meant to take place in America somewhere) Also the way those doctor enemies run at you, it just looks freaky if you get what I mean, everything about them just feels unnatural, which is also I think Silent Hill's biggest strength, everything just feels so unnatural it gets under your skin like nothing else I've played. 22:00 Fun fact, there's actually a name for this monster in this game, the Bloodsucker, which is also why you need the blood pack to distract it, it's also apparently the same thing in the fridge that you tell us to keep an eye on later. (It's also apparently meant to represent Alessa's strong fear of stuff like leaches or snakes)

      Who knows, the alternate explanation is that Kaufmann's a really shitty shot. Aye laddie! Well his voice acting career was a good one albeit brief. Just avoid the tentacles and you'll be alright. I'm seething in rage as we speak. I've always wanted to see a game adapt something like the prologue segment of KH2 in a horror setting. Maybe not Kingdom Hearts specifically since it likely couldn't go too far into the depths of darkness (funnily enough) but just to see aspects of normalcy get turned on its head by the endgame. Oh hell yeah! The Professor Pyg mission in Arkham Knight was scary as hell and doubly so as you approach his hideout and find out what he's doing to the Dollotrons "Pain is the body's way of saying... Thank you" Fear the Washing Machine for it dominates your faculties. Indeed. And given the early concept of SH Origins you might have just gotten your Scrubs enemies if the plot inspiration was to be believed. That symbolism part of Alessa's fear of snakes and leeches does make a lot more sense given some of the enemies cut from the game. But I'll be showing those off in the Bonus video at the end of the commentary.

Despite how old the games are now, their art direction will always be timeless appose to the recent games which look really bad. Speaking of Ito, Sakura head is one of his worst monsters ever. (And yes you could fall down on lower difficulties, in fact I think I fell down once, but it's been quite a while since I started my playthrough of that game) 12:43 Okay the first thing I thought of when you brought up Wawa was that one bit from SomecallmeJohnny's review of Wrath of Cortex. "Wrath of Cortex, triggering my addictions" (Didn't know about the Jack Daniel's thing though, maybe they just wanted to save time of coming up with a fake brand and took a scan of the label and hoped the PS1 would compress it enough that nobody would notice) 15:07 Not gonna lie I may look into that as well, granted you'd have to spend your whole day there, might be worth a shot though. That's probably because John used to work at a Wawa store before he became a major internet reviewer dude. I suppose the low fidelity PS1 was what saved it from copyright vultures peering down at them... Either that or someone at the Jack Daniels brewery really liked Silent Hill and let them keep it. 2:09 Wow, dat mic quality, granted I'm certainly not one to talk with my current mic either. (I probably will watch your old commentary as well if you were wondering, especially with how you aren't showing off the other endings like you mentioned) 3:24 Yes they do indeed have a name, they're called Creepers (Jeepers! it's the Creeper!) and apparently they are supposed to represent Alessa's dislike of insects, they also appear in the arcade game actually, bet you forgot that exists. 6:50 Ya know now that I look at the wall it kinda looks like a creepy face, I wonder if that was intentional. 7:44 Still don't quite know how I feel about the way Shattered Memories handled Harry, I still haven't played the game but I at least know what happens, but who knows maybe I'll at least come around to it once I play the game. 8:10 "Could it be foreshadowing for the next area? THE GAME IS AFOOT WATSON!" 8:23 Aaaand Harry walks right past the extra shotgun ammo. 11:24 "Hi we would like to notify you about your cars extended warranty" But in all seriousness, I 100% agree with you on feeling for Harry, it's why I think he's so great, he doesn't care about the monsters or the cult, he just wants his daughter back, and yes that isn't all that matters to him, but him continuing to soldier on despite all the danger and wackos, it makes me like him as a character so much, definitely among the top ten dads in video games. (In my opinion) 12:46 Didn't know we found out who Harry's actor is, might have to check out that interview. And if you want my opinion on how he did, I think he did pretty decent actually, he's not too bad as Dracula either from the clips I've seen of SotN. (And yeah, it sucks that Konami isn't willing to pay their actors, and the fact that it keeps the games from being re-released makes it suck a bit more, I can only hope that Konami gets their fingers out of their @$$) 14:39 "How disgraceful" But yeah, I agree that it's actually well done, the locker lures you into a false sense of security by making you think there's nothing else in the room and them WHAM! it gets you to give you the thing you need, and because we encountered the cat it also subverts your expectations, the fact that it's also the only jumpscare in the game helps. (And that it doesn't have that loud of a sound attached to it) 23:19 Considering Heather calls it "The good stuff" I have a suspicion that it is indeed a type of drug. (Good question on what they taste like though, if I had to guess maybe oranges or mango? strawberry perhaps? idk) 27:00 Harry: "I do not think about va(#&%^ that much" (That right there is a Rabtoons reference my skully friend) And to talk about Split Head as a boss, he's alright, although he does feel like he takes way too many hits on hard. And finally, to talk about the diegetic sound thing, I 100% agree that sound that is realistically coming from the game is much scarier than stuff that isn't, (Can't for the life of me remember the difference lol) and that actually reminds me of Luigi's Mansion funnily enough, basically what happens is that one part of the main theme walking around is not actually being played in universe, the usual game music, and then you have Luigi humming or whistling depending on if the area is safe, to fill in the parts of the track that aren't in the actual instrumentation, like the song is playing in his head, the youtuber Nitro Rad goes into more detail on this in his video on the game if you're interested.

      Don't worry 2014 Skully is wrapping a noose around his neck as we speak. No, I didn't forget about the arcade game because I remember seeing Guy Cihi playing it after telling me to stop sitting there eating pizza. It might be, especially given that the designers put something similar in the Hallway of the Lakeview Hotel in SH2 when Mary has her rant towards James. Bare in mind that Harry's personality also shifts with your decisions in that game so there is a lot of give and take based on what you make him out to be. But in so far as his core personality traits go, I still think he's fairly solid, even if the game makes him look more like a NERD. Harry IS the Best Dad in video games. Forget Gad of Boi, forget the Lame of us screw Walking Dead and every other Parent sim walkabout game over the last 10 years, Harry is the OG homie! I honest to god wonder whether or not its Silent Hill's lack of success in Japan that keeps them from re-releasing the games via a collection like Metal Gear or Castlevania (since the latter success world wide would probably make Konami happier to pay for performance royalties) or if Silent Hill series wide, including the Post Team SIlent Era just had a different clause compared to other games when it came to paying their VAs and Mocap actors? A nice healthy jump scare that doesn't linger with scare chords or false build up. Just a BOO and then you're on your way to new adventure! Mmmmmm! I want Strawberry Drugs right this very now! Aw, c'mon, Who's afraid of a lizard? But yeah RABtoons... Haven't thought about them in years. Did like the SH4 Parody they made over a decade ago though. That's a nice detail on the part of the Luigi's Mansion developers that gives him a nice bit of character in regards to his cowardice.

    2:12 In fact if you did search the area, you would find the school bus and a safe area inside of it, it's neat how they added that as a place you can save and get more items. 2:36 Interesting, do you remember the name of the game? 7:08 I still have no idea what the use for most of these bathroom areas are, I'm pretty sure one of them is the same room you get the shotgun in, but I don't know why you can go in most of them. (And yes I get the easter egg reason with the child crying in one of the rooms but that still doesn't explain why most are open with nothing in them for a majority) 10:41 I actually mostly use melee for my playthroughs, idk I just find it more preferable to use instead of the freedom loving American way, which is ironic considering I'm from America unlike you. (I prefer melee in most games though so it's not too surprising for me) 12:22 Well I learned what the cat in the locker is meant to mean now, and I could've gone my whole life without knowing that and I'd probably be better off, christ. (I wonder how the cat stayed alive or how it got in there though) 13:20 As someone who does actually want to try out commentating for a few games, good advice. (And one idea I came up with myself, make a "Use these in case of nothing to say" paper sheet or something with trivia, along with what you *should* mention in an episode also written down) 15:45 Well I wouldn't know because I never went to school, lucky me I guess. 16:22 I wonder why Harry can interact with this of all things. 17:25 Alas, despite having a cross over kart racer, and an obscure Japanese only PS2 and Gamecube platform fighter to Konami's name, Metal Gear and Silent Hill characters have still never been in the same game, (And if you're wondering, I'm talking about Konami Krazy Racers for the GBA which has Gray Fox as a racer, and Dream Mix TV World Fighters which has Snake as a fighter before he was in Smash Bros Brawl, which is a shame because PS1 model Harry using the secret weapons and stuff like in the SH 2 and 3 UFO endings or Heather using stuff like the lightsaber and the magical girl costume would've been hilarious and awesome to see in Dream Mix) 26:37 To give my thoughts on SHf, I don't think it looks bad from the one trailer we've seen of it, and it could be an interesting take on the series, but this is Konami so I still don't have a lot of hope it'll be good, at least I'm not shoving out buzz words similarly to those "Anti woke" rage bait idiots on UA-cam like Silenthazardz over here. Like no disrespect man, but calm down on that stuff, and stop using so many words like that, you can say your opinion and not need to say stuff like "Generic otaku weeb game" which doesn't say anything about why it's bad other than "Lol it's generic, lol Japanese", seriously man calm down, the game hasn't even come out and we only have one trailer, does that not seem a bit early to pass judgment?

      I usually save the school bus for after I'm done with the school just to get a few extra health drinks and be on my way for the journey ahead. I wish I could remember, it was over 13 years ago since I last played it but I do remember the bathroom jump scare and the "borrowed" SH2 plot twist for what it was worth. Two explanations I can think of is either including them for the sake of euclidean geometry to create normalcy before the otherworld seeps in and messes with your sense of reality as seen later on in the otherworld where the bathroom teleports you to the second floor. Or gameplay wise its a means of draining your ammo by having a little monster closet in there with either health or ammo as your reward. Melee can definitely be preferable if you're one to conserve the ammo in boss fight situations. and once you get into the rhythm of how Silent Hill's melee system flows, then you can definitely keep a safe amount of health while swinging about the trusty steel pipe or the HAMMER OF JUSTICE!!! Yeah, that scene was quite grimacing. Even further to the fact that even if you kill all the Grey Children/Mumblers in the hallway a new one appears after killing the cat. You seem to have a good structure with topics to talk about and trivia so I think after a while of building up your confidence and letting your personality flourish naturally you'll do wonderfully dude. Ah! The plot thickens as I learn MORE about the backstory of Sir Isaac Fortesque. I suppose the in universe logic is "I need to get that medallion to access the clock tower, Cheryl might be in there, perhaps the storeroom has something that can help" from Harry's perspective. Perhaps Konami consider (even in the series heyday of popularity) Silent Hill to be too violent to put into more lighthearted spin off games or crossovers (Konami Crazy Racers aside) since at best they'd probably just throw in Pyramid Head with a lot of his horror aspects sanded down. But apart from that I suppose it'd be a bit more difficult to tone him down compared to Solid Snake where you can remove stuff like neck snapping and knifing your enemies with generic "shoot missiles" or punches and kicks. I'm half and half on Silent Hill f between you and The Media Nerd here because on the one hand I'm with you in that it could have potential and I'm waiting to see more or at least a gameplay trailer before making a final decision. But on that same token given Konami's strategy here it feels more like "Okay if the Silent Hill 2 remake is a bust we'll go the hard reboot/do something completely unrelated to the past and make it all Japanese because our games didn't sell well there and people like Japanese horror... I think?" Which wouldn't be so bad if they didn't outsource it to Neobards, a Taiwanese studio who haven't really had their hand in much else apart from porting games like the Devil May Cry HD Collection... Its a trial by fire, but I think the studio at least needs a few games under their belt before being given the big task of pushing Silent Hill forward into the future, because a lot of this situation sorta screams similar to Double Helix Games with SH Homecoming.

And yeah, it is very true that SH is more dark and violent than most video game series's, and sure you could go with my idea of using the goofier aspects of SH for games like Krazy Racers and Dream Mix, like how I mentioned using UFO ending Harry Mason, PS1 model and all, (Like the artists for the SH3 UFO ending even went with the detail of making Harry still look like a PS1 model if you look closely) or Heather with her lightsaber and magical girl suit, and wasn't there T-shirts or something that gave her unique attacks too? But I could see the argument that it does misrepresent the series in a way, plus the Metal Gear series is way goofier more often than SH, heck the knife isn't even a problem, slashes are fine, it's stabbing that's a bit more of a gray area.
